Introducing Our New Automated Logistics Center

To meet the rising global demand for high-quality potato starch, KMC has opened a new state-of-the-art logistics center in Brande, Denmark. This 20,000-square-meter facility is designed to enhance our capacity and efficiency in handling the increasing volume of potato-based food ingredients.

The logistics center features a total of 10 halls, each covering 2,000 square meters, with a total capacity of over 22,500 pallets, ensuring ample space for storage. Initially, six halls will operate in a traditional manner, while the remaining four halls will feature a fully automated robotic warehouse solution. The facility is equipped with advanced shuttle racking and autonomous trucks, alongside a new Warehouse Management System (WMS) to optimize space utilization.

“We are taking significant steps with the new logistics center. In comparison, our current warehouse has four loading docks, while the new centre will have 18, which relieves a major planning burden from our employees. Additionally, the robotic warehouse solution will give us entirely new opportunities to maximize both our production capacity and storage conditions – in a way that lets technology handle the practical organization of the warehouse,” says KMC CEO Jesper Burgaard.

Enhanced Efficiency and Customer Service

With the new logistics center, handling and dispatching of products will become more efficient. Once fully automated, the centre will allow us to send just under four trucks per hour, 11 hours a day, Monday to Friday.

"In the transition phase, we will need at least two new warehouse workers and a number of temporary staff, in addition to our current employees, to service production and logistics partners – and ultimately, customers. In the last fiscal year alone, we saw a 10% increase in sales across the KMC group, so we’ve had to rethink our logistics. With the new logistics centre, employees can focus on smooth transactions instead of spending time on storing products," says Jesper Burgaard.

Reducing Traffic and Environmental Impact

From March 1, we will begin phasing out our old warehouse, which will ease local traffic congestion. Ceasing shipments to the old warehouse will eliminate detours through Brande, reducing road pressure, and our new logistics route bypasses residential areas, benefiting the community.

“To get to the old warehouse, we currently have to take a detour around the town centre, but we still pass through residential areas. With the new logistics centre, we will avoid this completely. This will redirect a significant amount of traffic away from Brande town for the benefit of the town and surrounding community,” says Jesper Burgaard.

A Collaborative Effort for a Brighter Future

Built in collaboration with a local transport company, the logistics centre is a symbol of KMC’s dedication to efficiency, innovation, and community impact.

Advanced technology meets unparalleled service, ensuring a seamless supply of high-quality potato starch products to meet the needs of our customers.
